Calcium scale is one of the more stubborn maintenance problems around a pool. It builds as a hard white crust on tile, stone and waterlines, and efflorescence pushes white crystalline deposits out through grout, coping and raised bond beams. Neither responds to normal cleaning, and scrubbing hard enough to shift them often damages the surface underneath.
