What it does
It is the joint between the feed hose and the cleaner itself. Every drop of water that drives the 3900 passes through this connection, and it flexes with the hose all day, so it is a normal wear item.
The symptom
A hose that keeps working loose at the cleaner, or a visible split or crack at the connector, means water is escaping before it reaches the jets. The cleaner slows down, wanders or stops climbing.
