The part that wears out
A peristaltic chemical feeder works by squeezing a flexible tube with a set of rollers, pushing chemical along without the liquid ever touching a pump mechanism. That design is why the pumps handle aggressive chemicals well, and it is also why the tube is the consumable. Every revolution flexes the same section of tube. Eventually it fatigues and splits, and when it does the chemical ends up inside the pump head instead of in the pool.
