Product details

This is the Jandy R0457501 hot surface ignitor for the Legacy model LRZE pool and spa heater. It is the genuine Jandy OEM part.

What a hot surface ignitor does

Instead of a standing pilot, the heater energizes a ceramic element that glows hot enough to light the gas at the burner. It is a wear part. The element degrades over years of heating and cooling, and eventually it no longer reaches ignition temperature, so the heater goes through its sequence and never lights.

Before you replace it

Watch the ignitor through a start cycle if you can. If it never glows, or glows dull and uneven, it is the part. If it glows properly and the heater still will not light, look at the gas supply and the control side instead.

Fitting

Handle the ignitor by its bracket. The ceramic element is brittle and skin oils shorten its life, so keep your fingers off it and never force it into the mounting.

Which heater does this fit?

The Jandy Legacy LRZE pool and spa heater. Part number R0457501.

My heater clicks but never lights. Is this the part?

It is a strong candidate. A hot surface ignitor has to glow hot enough to light the gas, and they lose that ability as they age or crack. Confirm the ignitor is not glowing before you replace it, because gas supply and the control board can produce the same symptom.

Do I need to be careful installing it?

Yes. The element is brittle ceramic. Handle it by the bracket, keep your fingers off the element and never force it into the mounting.
