Product details

The Polaris G53 is the internal mechanism for the G52 back-up valve, the valve that gives the Polaris 180, 280, 380 and 3900 pressure cleaners their reverse cycle. It is the genuine Polaris part.

Why the reverse cycle matters

A pressure side cleaner has no way to see where it is. What keeps it from parking in a corner or hanging on a step is the back-up valve, which every few minutes diverts water and drives the cleaner backwards for a short burst. When the mechanism inside the valve wears out, the cleaner either stops reversing or reverses so often it never covers the pool.

Rebuild rather than replace

The mechanism is the part that wears; the valve housing usually outlives it. If the body and hose fittings are sound, fitting a new G53 brings the valve back for a fraction of the cost of a complete assembly.

What does the back-up valve actually do?
It interrupts normal running every few minutes and sends water back through the hose, so the cleaner reverses and works itself out of a corner or off a step.
Do I need a whole new valve?
Not always. If the housing is sound and only the timing action has failed, the G53 mechanism is the serviceable part inside the G52 valve.
Which cleaners does it cover?
Polaris lists it for the 180, 280, 380 and 3900. It also appears in the 480 Pro, BlackMax and TankTrax parts diagrams.
How do I tell the mechanism has failed?
The cleaner runs but never reverses, or it reverses constantly and will not settle into a normal pattern. Both point at the valve mechanism.
