It dissolves waterline scum and improves water clarity. Pool Season also lists it as a treatment for whitefly and insect residues.

Why use an enzyme

Organic matter uses up chlorine and clouds the water. Routine application of the enzyme increases chemical efficiency and filter efficiency, so the sanitizer and the filter spend less effort on contaminants that the enzyme has already broken down. Pool Season describes weekly use as the routine.
