The Raypak X94 Professional S-R410-EN, part number 014280, is Raypak's condensing natural gas pool and spa heater: 399,000 BTU/hr input at 94 percent thermal efficiency, a stainless steel ASME heat exchanger and low NOx combustion, for residential or commercial pools.

Efficiency

At 94 percent, Raypak's sizing table puts the output at 375,060 BTU/hr, against 327,180 for its 82 percent 406A at the same input. The X94 condenses, so it vents as Category IV in PVC, CPVC, polypropylene or stainless steel and drains condensate through a 3/4 inch hose barb.

The build

The stainless steel heat exchanger bears the ASME H-stamp and is National Board registered. An external bypass, a temperature and pressure gauge and a flow switch are standard, and every connection is on the rear. Raypak designs the X94 with a small footprint, and units nest together. Whether a pool needs an ASME heater is for the local code and the inspector to say.

Installation

Water connections are 2 inch PVC slip, with 2 inch CPVC swivel unions supplied, and the gas connection is 3/4 inch NPT. Raypak's manual gives a flow range of 40 to 125 GPM, a 120 V, 5 A supply, and full rated input up to 4,500 ft. The heater can be installed indoors or out.
