What the valve does
The side mount valve is the handle you turn to send water through the filter, out to waste on a backwash, or to close the tank off for service. When the internals wear, the valve starts passing water to waste while in filter, sticks between positions, or leaks around the shaft. At that point rebuilding a badly worn body is usually poor value against fitting the complete kit.
Check before you order
