The Astral 18111R0010 is the water drain cap for the Astral 2500 series filters, covering the Terra 75 and Terra 150 and the CEL 40 and CEL 70 GPM DE filters.
What it does
The drain cap closes the port at the base of the filter tank. It is opened whenever the tank has to be emptied, for a tear down and clean or for winterizing, and it has to seal completely afterward. Nothing else on the filter holds pressure if this does not.
Why it needs replacing
The cap gets handled more than any other part of the tank and it lives at ground level where it takes grit and freeze damage. Threads get cross started, the plastic cracks, and the result is a slow drip at the base of the filter that is easy to blame on the tank itself. Fitting a new cap costs very little and rules the cheapest cause out first.
