Astral 22358 is the 100 Series top mount multiport valve, molded in ABS with 1-1/2 inch ports. It is the OEM valve for the Millennium 2000 Series and Cantabric 3000 Series sand filters.
What the multiport does
The multiport is the control center of a sand filter. It sends water to filter, backwash, rinse, waste, recirculate or closed, and every one of those positions depends on the diverter sealing against the seat inside the valve. When the seals go, water bypasses to waste while the filter is running, or sand appears in the pool.
When to replace the valve
A rebuild kit is worth trying if the body is sound and the handle indexes properly. Once the body is cracked, the shaft is worn or the diverter will not hold a position, the valve itself is finished. Confirm the port size and the filter series before ordering, because a top mount valve is specific to the tank it was designed for.
