Product details

This is the 2 inch multiport valve kit, part SM2-PP3, for Pac-Fab Triton sand filter tanks. It covers TR 100, TR 140, TR 100HD, TR 100C and TR 140C.

What a multiport does

The multiport is the valve that gives a sand filter its modes. One handle position sends water through the sand to filter, another reverses it to backwash, another rinses the bed after a backwash, and the rest cover waste, recirculate and closed. All of that comes from a rotor turning inside a single valve body.

When the whole valve is the answer

Multiports wear from the inside. Once the sealing surface is worn or the body is cracked, water passes between ports whatever the handle is set to, and the usual sign is water running to waste while the filter is supposedly filtering. That is the point where the valve gets replaced instead of rebuilt.

Match the size

This is the 2 inch valve. Side mount sand filters are also built with 1-1/2 inch ports, so confirm the port size on your tank before ordering.

Is this the 2 inch or the 1-1/2 inch valve?
2 inch. The smaller side mount sand filters use a different valve kit, so match the port size on your tank before ordering.
Is it a valve or a kit?
It is supplied as a valve kit rather than a bare body, part number SM2-PP3.
Why replace the whole multiport?
Once the internal spider gasket seat or the valve body is worn or cracked, water leaks between ports no matter which position the handle is in. At that point the valve is replaced rather than rebuilt.
