Product details

Waterway 805-0460 is the tank lid O-ring for the Clearwater II filter, with a 16-1/4 inch outside diameter. It is the seal between the lid and the tank, and it is what lets a filter hold pressure without leaking.

The symptom

A lid ring almost always announces itself the same way. The filter is fine while the pump is off, then weeps, drips or sprays from the lid seam once the system comes up to pressure. Pull the lid and the old ring will usually be flat sided instead of round, hard instead of supple, or nicked from a previous opening.

Fitting it

Clean the groove and the sealing face before the new ring goes in, since a single piece of grit will hold the joint open. Use a silicone based lubricant intended for pool O-rings and keep petroleum grease away from it. Seat the ring evenly all the way round, then close the lid to the manufacturer figure rather than as tight as it will go, because overtightening damages the ring you just fitted.

How do I know this is the right O-ring?
Measure the outside diameter of the old ring. This one is 16-1/4 inch OD, Waterway part 805-0460, for the Clearwater II tank lid.
My filter drips at the lid. Is this the fix?
Usually. A lid that weeps or sprays once the pump comes up to pressure is nearly always a flattened, cracked or nicked lid O-ring.
Should I lubricate it?
A silicone based lubricant made for pool O-rings is the normal choice. Petroleum grease attacks the rubber and should be kept away from it.
