Product details

The Waterway 805-0448 is the lid o-ring for Pro Clean cartridge filters, 10 inch inside diameter with a 1/4 inch cross section. It is the genuine Waterway replacement.

When to change it

A cartridge filter that weeps or sprays from the lid seam after a cleaning is usually telling you the lid o-ring is done. Seals take a set from being clamped for a season, and once the rubber has flattened, hardened or picked up a nick it will not seal again no matter how far the clamp is tightened. Over tightening to chase a leak is how tanks and clamps get damaged.

Fitting it

Clean the groove and the sealing face before the new seal goes in, and check that nothing from the old one is left behind. A thin film of silicone o-ring lubricant helps it seat evenly and makes next season easier. Keep petroleum based grease away from it.

Confirm the 10 inch inside diameter and the 1/4 inch cross section against the seal you removed before ordering.

My filter lid is leaking. Is this the part?
On a cartridge filter, a lid that weeps at the seam is nearly always a worn, flattened or nicked lid o-ring. Take the old one out and check it for flat spots and cuts before you order.
Should I grease it?
A thin film of silicone o-ring lubricant is the usual practice. It helps the seal seat evenly and keeps the lid from bonding to the tank over a season. Avoid petroleum grease, which attacks rubber.
