The Pentair 59000600 is the stand pipe o-ring for the FNS Plus DE filter, a standard 2-137 size ring. It is also listed for the American Products Titan stainless steel and Titan CM DE filters.
What it seals
The stand pipe runs up the center of a DE filter and carries filtered water out. The o-ring at that joint is the only thing keeping unfiltered water from taking a shortcut past the grids. When it hardens, flattens or tears, water bypasses the element and DE powder comes back to the pool through the returns.
Fitting it
Replace it any time the filter is opened for grid cleaning or a tear down. Use a silicone lubricant intended for pool o-rings, never a petroleum grease, which swells and destroys the rubber. It is a small part against a filter that is not doing its job.
