The Pentair 172855 is the genuine OEM air relief strainer, the 3/4 inch screen used at the air relief point on PacFab DE filters. It fits the OEM manifold on most FNS, FSH, Nautilus and Nautilus Plus filters.
What it is
The part is a round metal mesh screen bonded to a rubber base. The mesh is close to what you would find in a screen door: fine enough to hold filter media back, open enough to let air pass. It is a small part doing an unglamorous job, and when it tears or packs solid the air relief stops working properly.
Getting the right one
Pentair builds three screens in this style. They look alike, but each is matched to a different tube size, so both the outside dimensions and the hole in the bottom of the rubber base differ. This one measures 1-3/4 inch in diameter and 1-1/2 inch high, with a 3/4 inch hole. Measure the one you are pulling out before you order, since the two other versions will not seal correctly on the wrong tube.
