This Royal cover is cut for a 12 x 24 ft rectangular inground pool with the step centered on one end wall. The step section is 8 ft wide and comes 4 ft back from the pool at the water line, which is how to measure your own step: along the wall first, then out into the water. The panel is made oversize so fabric lands on the deck around the whole pool, and that overlap is where the anchors go.

A smaller pool gets the same test as a large one. ASTM F1346 loads any cover on a pool more than 8 ft wide with 485 lb in its static test, applied as three weights of 210, 225 and 50 lb, each over a single square foot and all placed within a 3 ft radius, and a 12 ft width is well past that line. Only safety covers face the test at all, which is the difference between this and a winter cover. The classification is printed on the label, so it can be checked years later.
