Product details

A 12 x 24 ft rectangle takes this Royal mesh panel, cut at 14 x 26 ft so a foot of fabric lands on the deck all the way around. That margin is what lets the straps pull the cover taut against the anchors instead of dragging it across the coping. Order to the pool size; the cover size is a manufacturing figure.

  • Blue mesh fabric listed at 4.5 oz with a 385 PSI burst rating.
  • Rain and snowmelt drain through the weave, which keeps standing water off the surface and keeps a cover pump out of the picture.
  • Straps run on a 5 by 5 ft grid, so the load is spread evenly across the panel.
  • Flush mount brass anchors and collars are made not to corrode in a wet deck.
  • Stainless steel springs, an installation rod, a tamping tool, and a storage bag come with the cover.

This is a safety cover rather than a winter cover, and the two are separate classes under ASTM F1346. The label on the cover has to name its classification under section 8.12, which is how an owner tells them apart. PoolTux publishes 15 years limited on the Royal line, the first 3 of them full.

What size pool is this cover for?
A 12 x 24 ft rectangular inground pool with no step. The 14 x 26 ft figure on the spec sheet is the cut of the fabric, which is two feet larger in each direction so the edges can reach the deck. Take your measurement at the water line before you order.
How much weight does a pool safety cover have to hold?
ASTM F1346 sets it out in section 7. A cover on a pool wider than 8 ft is loaded with 485 lb, applied as separate weights of 210, 225, and 50 lb, each spread over one square foot and all placed inside a 3 ft radius. Narrower covers are tested at 275 lb. This is sold as a safety cover and is made to meet ASTM F1346.
How far should I drop the water before closing the pool?
Follow the maximum the cover manufacturer states, which is commonly no more than about 18 in below the top of the pool. The water underneath is what carries a snow load, so taking it lower works against the cover. With mesh the level then rises again over the winter as rain drains through, and it is worth rechecking before you open.
What does my deck need for the anchors?
A safety cover anchors into the deck, so you need solid decking all the way around the pool. Brass anchors tamp down flush into concrete or paver decking and wind up with a hex key when the cover goes on. With no deck on one side there is nothing for the straps on that side to pull against.
