A 14 by 28 ft rectangle with no step outside the pool line takes this plain King99 mesh panel. The cover is cut 16 by 30 ft, which puts a foot of fabric on the deck all the way round for the straps and anchors to work against.
Installation is the part worth planning. Straps pull out to brass anchors that tamp flush into concrete or paver decking, and each anchor winds up or down with a hex key, so the deck around the pool has to be continuous and solid. The anchors, the springs, an installation rod, a tamping tool and a storage bag all come with the cover. Once it is on there is very little to do: the mesh passes rain and snowmelt into the pool rather than holding it, so no pump sits on the fabric and no water has to be cleared after a storm.

- 99 percent of ultraviolet light is kept off the water.
- Chafing strips guard the webbing and the coping from abrasion.

Is this the right cover for a pool with a step?
Not if the step sits outside the rectangle. This is the plain 14 by 28 ft panel with no cutout. Pools with a step that projects beyond the rectangle take the left step, center step or right step version.
Why is the cover listed at 16 by 30 ft?
That is the panel, not the pool. A safety cover is built a foot larger than the pool in each direction so the fabric crosses the coping and the straps can reach anchors set back in the deck. Order by the 14 by 28 ft pool measurement.
What sort of deck do the anchors need?
Concrete or paver decking, continuous around the pool. Brass anchors tamp down flush into the surface and wind up with a hex key when the cover goes on. A side with grass or no deck gives the straps nothing to pull against.
Does a mesh cover change how I treat the water at closing?
It usually means doubling the algaecide. The weave stops 99 percent of ultraviolet light but still passes some daylight, and it also passes rain into the pool, so the water you close with will be diluted by spring.
