Product details

Built for an 18 x 36 ft rectangular inground pool with no step, this Royal panel is cut at 20 x 38 ft. That foot of extra fabric on each edge is the deck overlap where the straps and anchors go. It is a common mix up to order against the panel figure, so measure the pool at the water line and work from that.

  • Blue mesh fabric, published at 4.5 oz with a 385 PSI burst rating.
  • The weave drains rain and snowmelt into the pool, so no cover pump belongs on top.
  • Straps run on a 5 by 5 ft grid and tension against stainless steel springs.
  • Brass anchors and collars tamp flush into concrete or paver decking and are made not to corrode.
  • Anchors, springs, an installation rod, a tamping tool, and a storage bag come with the cover.

The reason this is a safety cover and not a winter cover comes down to the section 7 tests in ASTM F1346: 485 lb spread across three weights inside a 3 ft radius for a panel this wide. A winter cover is never asked to do that, which is why the standard says it is not a barrier for children under five.

The listing shows 18 x 36 and 20 x 38. Which one is my pool?
The 18 x 36 ft figure is the pool. The 20 x 38 ft figure is the panel, cut two feet larger in each direction so a foot of fabric reaches the deck on every side. Order by the pool measurement, taken at the water line.
What load does a safety cover have to carry?
ASTM F1346 sets the static load test in section 7. A cover on a pool more than 8 ft wide is loaded to 485 lb, applied as 210, 225, and 50 lb weights, each over one square foot and all within a 3 ft radius. Covers on pools 8 ft wide or under are tested at 275 lb. This is sold as a safety cover made to meet ASTM F1346.
What does the deck have to be for the anchors?
Concrete or paver decking takes the standard brass anchors, which tamp down flush and wind up with a hex key. You need deck all the way around the pool, because each strap has to pull against an anchor point. A side with no deck has nothing to anchor into and needs a different plan.
Will I need a cover pump?
Not with this one. Mesh lets rain and melted snow through into the pool, so no water sits on the surface. A cover pump belongs on a solid cover, which holds the water on top all winter.
