This Royal cover is cut for an 18 x 36 ft rectangular inground pool with the step centered on one end wall. The panel measures 20 x 38 ft, which puts about a foot of fabric on the deck around the whole pool once the springs are tensioned. The step section is 8 ft wide and comes 4 ft back from the pool at the water line, and that is the measurement to take on your own step.

Anchoring is the part of the job people underestimate. Every strap has to land in solid deck, so the pool needs decking all the way round for a cover like this to work. The brass anchors sit flush with concrete or pavers and wind down out of the way with a hex key in the spring. Once it is on, the cover is a barrier rather than a floor: ASTM F1346 tests a panel on a pool wider than 8 ft at 485 lb, loaded as 210, 225 and 50 lb over single square feet within a 3 ft radius.
