Product details

This Royal cover is cut for an 18 x 36 ft rectangular inground pool with the step centered on one end wall. The panel measures 20 x 38 ft, which puts about a foot of fabric on the deck around the pool once the springs pull it tight. The step section is 8 ft wide and comes 4 ft back from the pool at the water line, so check your own step against both numbers.

  • Green mesh listed at 4.5 oz per square yard with a 385 PSI burst rating.
  • Water passes through the weave into the pool rather than standing on the panel.
  • Straps every 5 ft in both directions, each ending at a deck anchor.
  • Brass anchors and collars will not corrode and tamp flush with the deck.
  • Stainless springs, a rod, a tamping tool and a storage bag are supplied.

Water level is the detail that gets a cover into trouble. Makers publish it as a ceiling rather than a target, commonly no more than about 18 in below the top of the pool, because the body of water is part of what holds the fabric up when snow sits on it. Drain the pool far below that and the cover has less behind it. Since mesh drains into the pool, the level also climbs across the winter, so it is worth a look in midwinter as well as at opening. PoolTux lists this cover at 15 years limited, the first 3 full.

What size pool does this cover fit?
An 18 x 36 ft rectangular inground pool with the step centered on one end. The panel measures 20 x 38 ft, and the difference between the two is the overlap that lands on the deck. Measure your pool at the water line.
How far down should I drop the water before closing?
Not as far as most people assume. Cover makers give the water level as a maximum you must not go past, commonly no more than about 18 in below the top of the pool, because the water is what supports the cover when snow loads it. Going lower than the stated limit removes that support.
Will the level change over the winter?
Yes, it will rise. A mesh cover sends rain and melted snow straight into the pool, so by spring the level is higher than you left it. Look at it once or twice during the season and pump the pool down if it gets close to the top of the skimmer or the coping.
Is this the same as a winter cover?
No. ASTM F1346 classifies covers as powered safety, manual safety or other covers, and a winter cover is in that third group, which the standard says is not intended as a barrier for children under five. Only a safety cover has to pass the section 7 tests, and section 8.12 makes the classification appear on the label.
