Product details

The 20 x 40 ft rectangle is the most common large residential pool, and this King99 panel is the right step version for it. The fabric measures 22 x 42 ft, which is the pool plus a foot on each side to lie on the deck and carry the straps to their anchors. The step area is cut 8 ft wide and 4 ft back at the water line.

  • Blue mesh listed at 7 oz, with a burst strength of 670 PSI.
  • Self draining, so a 22 by 42 ft span never holds a pond and no pump has to run.
  • Straps on a 5 ft grid, each tensioned by a Tension-Tech spring against a flush mount brass anchor.
  • Almost all ultraviolet light stops at the weave, so algae has little to work with over the winter.

At this width the numbers behind the safety classification are worth knowing. ASTM F1346 loads a cover on a pool more than 8 ft wide with 485 lb, applied as 210, 225 and 50 lb weights, each spread across a square foot and all set within a 3 ft radius, and it asks that standing water clear within half an hour of rain ending. Compliance is self declared, so the right phrase is that a cover meets ASTM F1346, and the label is where the classification has to appear. Keep the water no lower than the maker says, because that water carries the snow load from below. The warranty is 20 years limited, 5 full.

What load does a cover this wide have to hold?
ASTM F1346 tests a cover on a pool more than 8 ft wide at 485 lb. The weight goes on as three pieces, 210 lb, 225 lb and 50 lb, each spread over one square foot, with all three placed inside a 3 ft radius. Only covers in the safety classes are tested this way.

Is this cover certified to ASTM F1346?
There is no certificate to point to, and nobody should be shown one. Compliance with F1346 is declared by the maker rather than granted by the standards body, so the accurate phrasing is that a cover meets the standard. What you can check yourself is the label, which under section 8.12 has to state the classification.
How big a step will it cover?
Up to 8 ft wide and 4 ft back at the water line. On a 20 x 40 ft pool, steps are often built larger than that, so this is the one measurement on a big pool that catches people out. Take it at the water line, on both axes, before ordering.
