Product details

Sized for a 20 by 44 ft rectangular pool with a right hand step, this King99 mesh panel measures 22 by 46 ft. That is one foot of fabric past the pool on each of the four sides, and it is the part that reaches deck level where the anchors are set. The step section takes in 8 ft of width and 4 ft back from the waterline.

The fabric is a woven mesh rather than a coated solid sheet. Rain and snowmelt pass down into the pool instead of gathering on the surface, which is why no cover pump belongs on it, and the weave still stops 99 percent of ultraviolet light from reaching the water. Debris stays on top where you can clear it rather than sinking to the floor of the pool.

Does the cover allow for my steps, and how big is that section?
It does, on the right end. The step area is 8 ft wide and extends 4 ft back from the waterline. Measure the width of your step at the water and how far it projects into the pool, and check both against those numbers before ordering.
Why is there a foot of extra fabric on each side?
The overlap is structural. It carries the straps from the water line out over the coping to anchors set in the deck, and it keeps the edge of the fabric off the pool wall. Without it there would be nowhere to anchor.
What does the standard actually require a safety cover to hold?
For a cover on a pool more than 8 ft wide, ASTM F1346 section 7 calls for a 485 lb static load, applied as 210, 225 and 50 lb over separate square foot areas, all placed within a 3 ft radius. Narrower covers are tested at 275 lb. Compliance with the standard is self declared, so we say the cover meets ASTM F1346.
Will I have to lower the water again in the spring?
Probably. A mesh cover sends every inch of rain and snowmelt into the pool, so the level rises through the winter. Check it when you open and drain back to your skimmer height before you start up.
