Product details

A 20 x 40 ft rectangle is the pool this King99 cover is cut for. The panel measures 22 x 42 ft, which is the pool plus a foot of overlap on each side so the webbing can reach anchors set back in the deck.

  • Green mesh, 7 oz, burst strength listed at 670 PSI.
  • Water passes through the weave into the pool, so there is nothing on top for a pump to clear.
  • The weave blocks 99 percent of ultraviolet light, which is the part of daylight that feeds algae.
  • Brass anchors sit flush in concrete or paver decking until a hex key winds them up.
  • Tension-Tech springs take the tension, and anti rub strips stand between the webbing and the coping.
  • Anchors, stainless springs, an installation rod, a tamping tool and a storage bag are in the package.

What separates this from a winter cover is the test behind it. ASTM F1346 divides covers into powered safety covers, manual safety covers and other covers, and a winter cover is an other cover that the standard says is not meant to act as a barrier for a child under five. A safety cover has to hold 485 lb in the section 7 load test at this width and shed standing water within 30 minutes of the rain stopping. Section 8.12 then requires the classification to appear on the label.

What pool does a 22 x 42 ft panel go on?
A 20 x 40 ft rectangle. The two numbers people confuse are the pool size and the cover size: this cover is ordered for the 20 x 40 pool, and the 22 x 42 ft panel is what it takes to reach a foot onto the deck all the way round. Take your measurement at the water line rather than off the outside of the coping.
How much weight is a pool safety cover built to hold?
ASTM F1346 sets that in section 7. A cover on a pool more than 8 ft wide has to carry 485 lb, applied as three separate weights of 210, 225 and 50 lb, each spread over one square foot and all placed within a 3 ft radius. A cover on a pool 8 ft wide or narrower is tested at 275 lb instead. A panel for a 20 ft wide pool falls in the first group, and this one is made to meet ASTM F1346.
Does a pool need more algaecide under a mesh cover?
A doubled dose is the usual practice. Mesh lets some daylight through all winter, and light is what algae needs to start. This weave screens out 99 percent of the ultraviolet that hits it, which slows growth without stopping it, so closing chemistry under mesh is normally stronger than under a solid panel.
What does my deck need before this cover goes on?
Solid decking the whole way round the pool. Each strap ends in a brass anchor drilled into concrete or paver decking, tamped down flush, then raised with a hex key when the cover is installed. Grass, gravel or a gap in the deck leaves nothing to anchor into on that side, and the panel only carries its load when every strap is pulling.
