Product details

A 20 x 44 ft rectangle is the pool behind this green Emperor panel. Flat, the cover is 22 x 46 ft, the extra foot on each side being the overlap that carries the straps onto the deck and out to the anchors.

  • Solid PVC laminated fabric, 12 oz per square yard, listed at 400 PSI burst strength.
  • The material resists ultraviolet light and mildew and lets nothing through to the water below.
  • The Aquaduck channel is built across the panel so rain does not stand in puddles.
  • Straps run 5 ft apart in each direction and finish at flush mount brass anchors.
  • Tension-Tech springs hold the panel taut, and chafing strips protect the webbing and the coping.
  • Brass anchors, stainless steel springs, an installation rod, a tamping tool and a storage bag are supplied.

Solid means water stays on top, so a cover pump or a drain panel is part of the setup. That is the plain difference between this and a mesh cover, which sends rain into the pool and raises the level instead. ASTM F1346 sets the bar a safety cover has to clear: 485 lb in the section 7 static load test at this width, and standing water gone within 30 minutes of the rain stopping. This panel is made to meet it.

What pool does this cover go on?
A 20 x 44 ft rectangle. The fabric is 22 x 46 ft, which is the pool plus a foot of overlap on each side so the straps reach the deck. Take the measurement at the water line rather than across the outside of the coping, and order by the pool.
Why choose solid over mesh?
A solid panel blocks daylight altogether, and light is what algae needs, so the water tends to open clearer. Mesh instead drains rain and snowmelt straight into the pool and needs no pump on top. The trade is real either way: this cover is solid, so water stands on it and has to be pumped or drained off.
Is a winter cover a cheaper version of this?
It is a different class of product. ASTM F1346 section 4 names powered safety covers, manual safety covers and other covers, and a winter cover is an other cover that the standard states is not intended as a barrier for children under five. A safety cover has to pass the section 7 load and drainage tests, and section 8.12 makes the label say which one it is.
How full should the pool be under this cover?
Follow the maximum the cover maker gives, commonly no more than about 18 in below the top of the pool. The water is what holds the panel up under a snow load, so dropping the level further than allowed takes away the support the cover is counting on. A solid panel does not add water to the pool over the winter, so the level you close at is roughly the level you will find.
