Quick overview

  • Variable speed Set the speed to the job instead of running one fixed speed all day.
  • 3.0 HP Sized for larger pools and for systems with heaters, water features or long plumbing runs.
  • 1.5/2 inch ports Fits either 1.5 inch or 2 inch plumbing, which covers most inground installations.
  • Lower running cost Pump power falls steeply with speed, so slow filtering hours are where a variable speed pump pays for itself.
  • Quieter at low speed Most of a pump day can run well below full speed, and the noise drops with it.
  • Inground replacement A straight variable speed swap for an aging single speed pump on an inground pool.

Product details

The Blue Torrent BTIGV300 is a 3.0 HP variable speed inground pool pump with 1.5 inch and 2 inch port fitment.

Why speed control matters

A single speed pump runs flat out whether it is filtering overnight or feeding a spa. Power draw climbs steeply with speed, so most of the energy a pool spends goes into hours that never needed full flow. A variable speed pump lets you set a low speed for long filtering cycles and step up only when you are vacuuming, backwashing or running features.

Sizing

The 3.0 HP rating is headroom rather than an obligation. It gives you the flow for a heater, a spa or a long plumbing run, and you dial the everyday speed down to whatever the pool and filter actually want. Make sure your plumbing and filter are matched to the flow you plan to run at the high end.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

What size plumbing does it connect to?
It is listed with 1.5/2 inch ports, so it suits either 1.5 inch or 2 inch pool plumbing.
Why choose variable speed over single speed?
A pump uses far less power at reduced speed than at full speed. Running long, slow filtering cycles and reserving high speed for vacuuming and features is what cuts the electricity bill.
Is 3.0 HP too much for my pool?
A variable speed pump is turned down to suit the pool, so the higher rating mainly gives you headroom for heaters, spa jets, water features and long pipe runs. Size the plumbing and filter to the flow you actually run.
Is this an inground pump?
Yes. Blue Torrent lists the BTIGV300 as an inground variable speed pool pump.
