Product details

This is the DEL Ozone CO-0103 check valve, rated 5 lb, with a 1.5 inch socket inlet and a 2 inch spigot outlet.

What it does

A check valve passes water one way and blocks it in the other. In an ozone installation that is not a convenience, it is protection. When the pump stops, water in the plumbing wants to travel back along the injection line, and the check valve is the only thing standing between that water and the ozone generator.

Fitting it

Note the two end styles: a socket on the 1.5 inch side and a spigot on the 2 inch side. Check valves are directional and marked, so fit it with the flow arrow pointing away from the ozone equipment. Confirm the pressure rating stamped on the valve you are removing, since this family is offered in more than one rating.

What do the two end sizes mean?
One end is a 1.5 inch socket, which a 1.5 inch pipe slides into. The other is a 2 inch spigot, which slides into a 2 inch fitting.
What does the 5 lb rating refer to?
It is the pressure rating of this version of the valve. DEL check valves are offered in more than one rating, so match the number on the valve you are replacing.
Why does an ozone system need a check valve?
To keep water from travelling back up the injection line into the ozone generator when the pump shuts down. That backflow is the most common way these units get destroyed.
Does the valve have a direction?
Yes. Every check valve is directional and is marked accordingly. Fit it so the arrow points with the flow, away from the ozone unit.
