Quick overview

  • Holds 6 to 8 tablets Takes 6-8 three inch chlorine tablets, enough to feed a pool for days rather than hours.
  • In ground or above ground Works the same way in either, since it simply floats.
  • No plumbing Load it, close it and drop it in. Nothing has to be cut into the equipment pad.
  • Steady feed Tablets dissolve slowly as water passes through, which is more stable than shocking and hoping.
  • Oreq built Part number CL380 from Oreq.
  • Keep it out of the skimmer A floating chlorinator should stay in open water, since parking it in the skimmer sends undiluted chlorine straight through the pump and heater.

Product details

The Oreq CL380, sold as the Chillin' Charlie, is a floating chlorine tablet dispenser. It holds six to eight three inch tablets and works in both in ground and above ground pools.

How it feeds

Load the tablets, close the dispenser and let it float. Water moves through the body as the dispenser drifts, dissolving the tablets slowly and releasing chlorine into the pool over days. That gradual feed holds a residual far better than dosing by hand every few days, which tends to swing between too much and not enough.

Where to keep it

Leave it in open water. It is tempting to drop a floater into the skimmer so it stays out of the way, but that pushes concentrated chlorine straight into the pump, the heater and the filter, and it shortens the life of every one of them. Take it out of the pool when people are swimming if it gets in the way, and put it back when they are done.

Handling tablets

Three inch tablets are the standard size for this dispenser. Keep them dry and sealed between uses, and never mix chlorine products in the same container.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

How many tablets does it hold?
Six to eight three inch tablets.
Will it work on an above ground pool?
Yes. It floats, so it suits in ground and above ground pools equally.
Can I use one inch tablets?
It is sized for 3 inch tablets. Smaller tablets will rattle around and dissolve far faster than intended.
Should I leave it in while people are swimming?
Most owners take it out during swimming so nobody bumps into it, then put it back afterwards. Never store it inside the skimmer, where concentrated chlorine passes straight into the equipment.
