Why the internals are sold separately
A deck jet is built in two parts. The housing is set into the deck when the pool is built and is not meant to come out again. Everything that actually does the work sits inside it and can be lifted out from above. That is what this kit replaces, so a jet that has stopped performing is a surface repair rather than a concrete job.
What goes wrong
Deck jets sit in the sun, scale up with pool chemistry, and catch whatever debris makes it through the plumbing. Over time the arc gets short, ragged or crooked. Once the passage is fouled and the parts are worn, fresh internals bring the stream back.
