- Genuine Hayward part Factory o-ring SPX1022CZ2, sized for the SP1022C plug.
- Seals the plug The plug itself does not seal, the o-ring on it does.
- Fixes a weeping plug A slow drip around a plug is almost always a flattened or cracked o-ring rather than a bad thread.
- Shown on Vari-Flo valve diagrams Hayward lists it with the Vari-Flo valve parts for SP0710X, 711 and 712.
- Cheap to keep on hand Worth having a spare before you next open the plug for winterizing.
- Lubricate before fitting A smear of silicone based lubricant helps the ring seat and makes the plug easier to remove next season.

Product details
The Hayward SPX1022CZ2 is the replacement o-ring for the SP1022C plug. It is the genuine Hayward part.
Why the ring matters
The plug body does not make the seal. The o-ring around it does, and it is the only thing between pool water and the outside. Once that ring has gone hard, taken a permanent flat, or picked up a nick from a previous removal, the plug will weep no matter how firmly it is screwed down.
Fitting
Clean the groove before you fit the new ring and put a thin film of silicone based lubricant on it. That helps it seat evenly and makes the plug far easier to remove next time. Hayward also shows this o-ring on the Vari-Flo valve parts listings for SP0710X, 711 and 712.
