Product details

The Pentair 196039 is the replacement cartridge element for the 60 GPM EasyClean pool and spa DE filter. It is the genuine Pentair part, sized and pleated for that housing.

How the element works

The EasyClean is a diatomaceous earth filter built around a cartridge style element. The element itself does not do the fine filtering. It is the frame the DE clings to, and that coat of powder is what traps the small particles that make water look hazy. If the fabric tears or the element collapses, the powder washes straight through and comes back into the pool through the returns.

When to replace it

Two symptoms point at the element. The first is DE returning to the pool after a recharge. The second is filter pressure that climbs quickly and will not come back down after a proper cleaning, which starves the pump and shortens filter cycles. Either one calls for a new element rather than another wash.
