Product details

The Perma-Cast PW-3C is the wedge assembly for the Hanover No. 30 anchor socket. It is supplied complete with the washer and the 1-1/2 inch bolt.

How the anchor works

A deck anchor is a hollow socket cast or drilled into the concrete. The rail or ladder leg drops into it, and a wedge sitting in the socket is drawn upward by a bolt through the escutcheon. As the wedge rises it is pushed outward, pinching the leg against the socket wall so the rail cannot lift or twist.

Why it fails

Everything about that joint sits in wet, chlorinated air. The bolt is what usually goes, seizing or stretching until it no longer draws the wedge tight, and the rail starts to move under load. Replacing the wedge, washer and bolt together restores a solid rail without touching the concrete.

Identify the socket first

Perma-Cast makes several wedge assemblies for different socket patterns. This one is the Hanover No. 30. If yours is a different socket, the wedge will not seat correctly and the rail will stay loose.

How does the wedge hold a rail?
The bolt draws the wedge up inside the socket. As it rises the wedge is forced outward against the socket wall and against the rail leg, clamping it so the rail cannot lift or rotate.
My rail wobbles. Is this the fix?
Usually. A rail that moves in a sound socket is nearly always a seized, stretched or corroded wedge and bolt, and this assembly replaces both.
