Product details

The Perma-Cast PB-AG is a water bonding fitting for above ground pool pumps. It threads into the 1/4 inch drain plug port on the pump strainer pot, under the strainer basket, so the fitting sits directly in the water passing through the pump.

Why pool water gets bonded

The National Electrical Code requires the pool water itself to be bonded, not only the metal parts around it. Section 680.26(C) sets that requirement, and a fitting like this is the usual way to meet it on an above ground pool where there is no bonded metal shell in contact with the water. This fitting presents 10.5 square inches of surface area to the water and is UL Listed.

Installation

It goes in the drain plug opening of the strainer pot, which makes it a straightforward retrofit on an existing pump rather than a plumbing change. Bonding and electrical work at a pool should be done to code, so have an electrician confirm the connection if you are not sure of the existing bond.
