The Raypak H000173 is the 8 ton thermal expansion valve for Raypak heat pump pool heaters. It is the genuine Raypak part.
What the TX valve does
A heat pump moves heat from the air into the pool water, and the expansion valve is what meters refrigerant into the evaporator so that transfer can happen. Get that metering wrong and the symptoms look like a failing unit: weak heat rise, a coil that ices, or a machine that runs and runs while the water temperature barely moves.
Fitment and fitting
Raypak lists this valve for the R6350, R8350, P5350, P6350 and P8350. It is an 8 ton valve, so it has to be matched to the unit rather than assumed. Because it is inside the sealed refrigerant circuit, replacement is work for a technician equipped to recover and recharge refrigerant.
