This is the Jacuzzi 42377408K standpipe assembly for the Laser 250L bolt on top mount sand filter.
What the standpipe does
The standpipe is the vertical tube running down the middle of the sand bed. Water filtered through the sand collects at the laterals at the bottom, travels up the standpipe and leaves through the valve. If the tube cracks, or the joint at the lateral hub fails, water short circuits the sand bed entirely and sand starts arriving in the pool.
Getting to it
The standpipe is buried in the media, so the sand has to come out to change it. That makes it a job worth combining with a media replacement, and worth using as the moment to inspect every lateral rather than only the one that failed. This part is listed for the Laser 250L, so confirm your tank size, since the shorter Laser models use a different length.
