Product details

The Waterway 505-2050 is the lateral and manifold assembly for 19 inch Clearwater top mount sand filters. It arrives as one piece: the manifold with its laterals already fitted.

What it is and where it sits

The assembly lives at the very bottom of the filter tank, buried under the sand. Its laterals are slotted arms fine enough to pass water but not media, so clean water leaves the tank while the sand stays where it belongs. Everything the filter does depends on those slots staying intact.

The symptom that sends people here

Sand appearing on the pool floor or blowing out of the returns almost always means a lateral has cracked. It is a job that requires draining the tank and digging the media out, so while you have it open it is worth replacing the whole assembly rather than a single arm.

What does this assembly do?
It is the underdrain at the bottom of a sand filter. The slotted laterals let filtered water pass out to the plumbing while holding the sand inside the tank, and the manifold ties them together.
Which filters does it fit?
Waterway lists it under Clearwater top mount sand filter parts, at the 19 inch size. Confirm the size of your tank before ordering.
Why is sand coming back into my pool?
A cracked or split lateral is the usual cause. Once an opening is bigger than a grain of sand, media escapes through the returns every time the pump runs.
