Product details
The Pentair 154763 is the hub assembly for the Triton II side mount sand filters, covering the TR40, TR50 and TR60. It is the genuine Pentair part, molded in plastic.
Where it sits
The hub is the center of the underdrain at the bottom of the tank. Laterals radiate out from it, and clean water has to pass through those laterals and into the hub before it can leave the filter. Everything about the underdrain depends on that hub staying intact.
The symptom
Sand coming back into the pool through the returns. When a hub cracks, or a lateral socket breaks out of the hub, sand takes the shortcut and follows the water out. Because the whole underdrain has to come out to reach the hub, it is worth checking every lateral at the same time rather than opening the filter twice.
