This is the Pentair 156344 upper inlet piping assembly, the genuine factory part for the Triton II TR100C and TR140C commercial side mount sand filters.
What it does
The upper inlet piping carries returning water into the top of the filter tank and spreads it out over the sand. When the piping cracks, splits or breaks free, water arrives in one concentrated stream instead. That channels a path straight down through the bed, so a large part of the sand never sees the flow and the filter stops clearing the water it used to.
Fitting it
This is an internal component, so the filter has to be shut down, isolated, drained and opened to reach it. It arrives as a complete assembly. On a commercial filter this is worth planning around a scheduled shutdown rather than an emergency one.
