Where it sits
The hub adapter is part of the assembly at the bottom of a sand filter tank, where the standpipe meets the underdrain and the laterals radiate outward. Everything filtered by the sand has to pass through that assembly on its way back to the pool, which is why damage down there shows up as sand returning through the returns.
