The Pentair 154527Z is the plastic wrench for the 8-1/2 in. closure on Triton C and Triton C-3 sand filters. It is the genuine Pentair tool.
Why a dedicated tool
Filter lids seal tight and season in place, and the usual improvisations, a screwdriver as a lever or a pipe wrench across the lugs, crack the lid or scar the tank. This wrench is shaped to the closure so the force spreads across the lugs instead of concentrating on one of them. It is made from corrosion resistant plastic, which will not mark the housing.
When you reach for it
Any job that means getting inside the tank: a sand change, an o-ring replacement, a look at the laterals, or an inspection after a pressure problem. Pentair also lists this wrench as compatible with select pump trap lids, so it can earn its place beyond the filter.
Before you turn it
Make sure the system is off and the tank is fully depressurized with the air relief open. A tank still holding pressure will not give up its lid, and forcing it is how lids get broken.
