Pentair 154408 is the 2 inch external spacer used in the Triton II C series sand filters, models TR100C and TR140C. It is the genuine Pentair part, molded in plastic.
Where it sits
The spacer belongs to the bulkhead assembly at the tank penetration. It sits on the outside and sets the standoff, which is what lets the assembly pull up square and load its seals evenly all the way around. Left out or fitted with the wrong size, the joint clamps unevenly and weeps under pressure.
While you have it apart
A spacer usually only comes out when a bulkhead is being rebuilt. Gaskets that have been compressed for years rarely reseal after being disturbed, so plan on replacing the seals in the joint at the same time rather than finding out at start up.
