This is the genuine Pentair quarter turn extra long lateral for 22 inch sand filters, the version for tanks manufactured after 10/04. The part number appears in the source material both as 150085Z and as 150085.
Where it is used
The primary application is the 22 inch Pentair Meteor filter built after 10/04. Pentair also lists this lateral as having been used with the Triton II TR60 built after 6/07, the Sand Dollar top mount models SD60, SD70 and SD80, and some Tagelus filters. The lateral measures 6.50 inches long with a 1.25 inch diameter at the connecting end. Measure the one coming out and compare, since the extra long version and the standard version are not interchangeable.
Why they fail
A cracked or split lateral lets sand through into the pool. If sand is showing up on the floor after a backwash, the laterals are where to look, and they are normally replaced as a set once one has gone.
