The Pentair 155051 sand guide is a genuine Pentair part cataloged with the Sand Dollar top mount sand filter family. It is the piece used when media is being loaded into the tank.
What it does
A top mount sand filter has an open standpipe running up the middle of the tank to the valve. When you pour a bag of sand in, anything that finds its way down that pipe bypasses the filter bed entirely and gets pushed straight out of the returns into the pool, and through the pump on the way. The sand guide covers the pipe while the tank is filled so the media stacks up around it instead.
