Product details

Pentair 354588 is the union adapter used on Sand Dollar top mount sand filter systems. It carries an internal buttress thread, which is the thread form the filter side fitting uses.

Why the union matters

The union is the joint that lets the plumbing come apart at the filter. Without it, changing media or replacing a valve turns into cutting and gluing pipe. That is why a cracked or cross threaded adapter is worth replacing properly rather than sealing with tape.

Fitting

Thread the adapter on by hand and stop when it seats. The joint seals on its gasket, not on thread tension, so over tightening splits the plastic without improving the seal.
