The Pentair 155062 is the genuine OEM piping assembly with hub for the Sand Dollar SD40 and the Tagelus TA50 and TA50D sand filters. It is supplied as one plastic assembly.
What it does
The piping assembly runs down the center of the tank and carries filtered water from the underdrain hub back up to the valve. Every gallon the filter cleans travels through it, so a crack anywhere along the standpipe or at the hub gives unfiltered water and sand a short cut past the laterals. That is the fault owners see as sand blowing back into the pool through the returns after a clean.
Doing the job once
Getting to this part means opening the filter and removing the sand, which is the bulk of the work. While the tank is empty, look over the laterals, the drain assembly and the tank gasket as well, since they age alongside the piping and are sold separately. Replacing everything suspect in one visit saves emptying the tank twice.
