The Pentair 155299 is the Tagelus piping assembly with hub and 1/4 turn lateral, listed for the TA60 and TA60D sand filters. It is the genuine Pentair part.
What it does
This assembly is the underdrain that sits at the bottom of the filter tank, buried in the sand. Water passes down through the sand bed, enters through the slots in the laterals, and is collected at the hub on its way back to the pool. Because the slots are sized to pass water and hold sand back, the condition of this assembly is what keeps sand in the tank.
The symptom
Sand appearing on the pool floor, usually worst right after a backwash, points at a cracked lateral or a broken hub. No amount of backwashing fixes that, and running the filter with a broken lateral empties the sand bed into the pool.
Doing the job
The assembly is under the sand, so the tank has to be opened and emptied to reach it. Since the sand is out anyway, it is the natural moment to put fresh media in.
