The SuperPro SP0823-10C is a 1 inch swing check valve with a clear body, unions on both ends and a 0.5 lb spring. Both connections are slip sockets, so it solvent welds into 1 inch pipe.
What a check valve is for
It lets water move one way and stops it coming back. On a pool that is the difference between a pump that holds its prime and one that drains back to the pool every time it shuts off, and on a system with a heater or a chlorinator it keeps chemically treated water or hot water from migrating back where it does not belong.
Swing and spring
The swing design pivots the flapper out of the flow path when the valve is open, which keeps the restriction low compared with a valve that makes the water turn. The 0.5 lb spring assists the close, so the flapper seats promptly rather than slamming when flow drops.
