Product details

The SuperPro SP0823-10C is a 1 inch swing check valve with a clear body, unions on both ends and a 0.5 lb spring. Both connections are slip sockets, so it solvent welds into 1 inch pipe.

What a check valve is for

It lets water move one way and stops it coming back. On a pool that is the difference between a pump that holds its prime and one that drains back to the pool every time it shuts off, and on a system with a heater or a chlorinator it keeps chemically treated water or hot water from migrating back where it does not belong.

Swing and spring

The swing design pivots the flapper out of the flow path when the valve is open, which keeps the restriction low compared with a valve that makes the water turn. The 0.5 lb spring assists the close, so the flapper seats promptly rather than slamming when flow drops.

Serviceable, and visible

The unions let the valve body come out without touching the glued pipe, and the clear body lets you confirm the flapper is doing its job. Between the two, a suspect check valve is quick to diagnose and quick to change.

What size pipe does it take?
1 inch. Both ends are slip sockets, so they solvent weld to 1 inch pipe.
What does the 0.5 lb spring mean?
It is the force the spring puts on the flapper. A 0.5 lb spring is on the light side, so the valve opens readily under normal flow and still shuts when flow stops.
Why choose a clear body?
Because you can see the flapper. A check valve that has stuck open or failed to seat is otherwise invisible, and a clear body turns a guess into a look.
Can I take it out without cutting the pipe?
Yes. It has unions on both ends, so the body unscrews from the glued tailpieces for service or replacement.
