Product details

The Hayward SP0710XR50 is the 1.5 in. Vari-Flo XL multiport backwash valve for DE filters. Hayward also lists it as SP710XR50, and SP710XA-50 is stamped into the body to the left of the return port.

Six functions, one handle

The lever action handle selects filter, backwash, waste, rinse, closed and recirculate. Instead of a bank of separate valves and a lot of guessing, the routine a filter needs is a matter of moving the lever to the marked position.

The sight glass

Backwashing pushes dirty water out to waste, and the question is always when to stop. The integral sight glass answers it: run the cycle until the water passing the glass is clear, then move on to rinse.

Construction

The body is made from Hayward PermaGlass XL, the material the company uses where flow and durability both matter, and the valve is engineered for maximum flow through the 1.5 in. ports.

What are the six positions?
Filter, backwash, waste, rinse, closed and recirculate.
How do I confirm this is the right valve?
Look at the valve body to the left of the return port. SP710XA-50 is stamped into the body there.
What is the sight glass for?
Backwashing sends dirty water out to waste. The sight glass lets you watch that water until it runs clear, which is how you know the cycle is finished.
What is PermaGlass XL?
It is the exclusive Hayward material the valve body is made from, chosen so the valve can be engineered for maximum flow.
