What the all purpose bag is for
Polaris offers more than one bag weave for these cleaners. The all purpose bag is the one most owners run all season, because it is fine enough to hold sand and silt but still takes leaves and larger debris without clogging on the first pass. Catching fines at the cleaner is what keeps them out of the pool filter, and that shows up as longer runs between backwashes or cartridge cleans.
When to change it
Bags are a wear item. They thin with use, and they usually let go at a seam or around the neck first. A bag that has opened at a seam collects debris on the way around the pool and drops it again, which owners often read as the cleaner losing suction. If the fabric is thin or the stitching is going, replace it.
