Product details

The ESPA SilenPlus is a variable speed swimming pool pump rated to 2 HP maximum, wired for 230 volts and plumbed with 2 in. connections. It is supplied under part number 5-SILENPLUS 2 in a black housing.

How variable speed changes the day

A single speed pump has one setting: full. Every hour of filtering costs the same, and the pad is loud the whole time. A variable speed pump turns most of that time into low speed running, where water still turns over but the motor works far less and the noise drops away. The higher speeds are there when you actually need them, for vacuuming, for backwashing the filter and for driving a water feature.

Check these before you order

Two details decide whether this pump drops into your pad without extra work. The first is the supply: this is a 230 volt pump, so a 115 volt circuit will need attention from an electrician. The second is the plumbing: the connections are 2 in., so pads built in 1-1/2 in. pipe will need adapters.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

What voltage does this pump need?
230 volts. Check the circuit at your equipment pad before ordering, because a 115V supply will not run this pump.
What pipe size does it use?
2 in. If your existing plumbing is 1-1/2 in., you will need adapters or a short section of new pipe.
How powerful is it?
It is rated at 2 HP maximum, and because it is variable speed it only draws what the selected speed needs rather than running at full output all day.
Why choose variable speed over single speed?
A variable speed pump lets you filter slowly for most of the day, which is quieter and cheaper to run, and then raise the speed only for the jobs that need real flow.
